With this post, I say a big thank you to Karen, at Heal Balance Live, for the lovely guest post she did last summer, on my Turkey Ranch burgers. As well, a big thank you to Katie, at Thyme For Cooking. You see, for the last year or so, I have wanted to get a Barbecue. We have never owned one, and in watching Food Networks shows Bobby Flay, Boy Meets Grill, and then my all time favorite, License To Grill with Rob...I was starting to get hooked. Then Katie at Thyme For Cooking, has done some recent Barbecue posts that look Divine! That was it, this weekend we went and bought a real Barbecue. This had to be our first recipe on the grill..and was it good!
This recipe originated from some magazine, Good HouseKeeping? Can't remember it was so long ago. I remember the original recipe seemed so complicated, can't remember exactly why, but I do remember, coming home and creating this recipe instead. So glad I did, it is the only Burger Recipe my family wants. So, here is my original recipe revised from long ago...
1 ¾ lb. Free range ground turkey
1 cup finely crushed corn tortilla chips
2/3 cup salsa
1 big Tblsp chili powder (or 2 tsp. if your chili is hot)
1 to 2 tsp. garlic powder
½ cup finely chopped green onions (any onion works well)
Pepper (I don’t use salt, as the corn chips have salt in them)
Mix all the ingredients well and shape into patties. I refrigerate them for 1 hour so the flavors can combine.
Then take out of the fridge, 30 minutes before frying. Fry on medium heat. Top with cheddar cheese (any cheese is good) or Barbecue as you would any burger, then serve on a bun with Mayo, Salsa, and guacamole. Delicious!
You may never go back to any other burger again!
